Edmund “Denny” Francis Austen, 85, of Hilo died Jan. 8 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired oil field sales representative, member of St, Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo, Hilo Lodge #759 of the Benevolent &Protective Order of Elks, AARP, Korean War Veterans Chapter 231, Hawaii Island Veterans Memorial Association, former Commander of VFW Post 3875 and a veteran of the U.S. Air Corp. Friends may call from 9-10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo; Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Survived by daughters, Sherry (George) Ann Black of Galveston, Texas, Barbara J. Austen of Hilo, Jacqueline (Fidel) Sauceda of Galveston, Texas, LaDonna Marie Kanani Finchman of Hilo; brother, Wilby George Austen of Hilo; sister, Kanani Donahue of Honolulu; one grandson, numerous nieces and nephews. Wilimina Nalehua Malakaua, 84, of Hilo, died Feb. 11 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Kona, she was a homemaker and member of the Waiakea Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Friends may call from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo; memorial service at 11 a.m. Survived by daughter, Ruth “Lulu” Miyasato of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Kinue Hashimoto of Makakilo, Oahu, Keolaho Davidson of Kahului, Maui; four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Mitsue Miyamoto, 92, of Hilo died Jan. 31 at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Wainaku, she was a retired dental assistant and member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Private services held. Jeffrey “Jeff” K. Reyes, 53, of Pepeekeo died Sunday, Feb. 2, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a certified public accountant and he also was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. Friends may call on Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou, visitation from 9-10 a.m.; Mass at 10 a.m. followed by an urn burial at Homelani Memorial Park (Lehua Section). Maryann “Meleana” Kawaiulailiahiokalani Switzer, 92, of Keaau died Feb. 21 at home. Born in Honolulu, she was a homemaker and member of the “Paniolo O Pupukea” club on Oahu and “Ke Ola Pono No Na Kupuna” club in Hilo. Celebration of life from 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Keaau Community Center, located behind the Keaau police department.
